What's Happening?

On May 31, 2025, AWS announced the retirement of AWS IoT Analytics (effective Dec 15, 2025) and AWS IoT Events (shutting down May 20, 2026).

This comes on the heels of Google Cloud's IoT Core shutdown in 2023 and reflects a larger trend: hyperscalers are exiting vertically integrated IoT services, pushing businesses toward DIY models or third-party middleware.

For AWS IoT customers, this shift creates a serious problem:

  • Loss of device telemetry processing
  • Gaps in real-time event orchestration
  • Broken alarm, rule, and analytics workflows

What Services Are Going Away?

AWS IoT Analytics

  • Time-series data ingestion and storage
  • SQL-based querying & dashboards
  • Prebuilt analytics pipelines

AWS IoT Events

  • Event rules and detection based on telemetry
  • Alarm models and state machines
  • Action triggers via Lambda

Without these tools, AWS IoT users face major architectural gaps.

Enter Flex83: The Industrial Middleware Replacement

Flex83 is a cloud-agnostic, AI/ML-enabled IoT Middleware built for scalable, secure, and flexible industrial applications.

Unlike retiring AWS tools, Flex83 is:

  • Fully customizable with pro-code and MLOps capabilities
  • Modular, event-driven, and open protocol-ready
  • Built to handle device provisioning, orchestration, rule engines, and real-time intelligence

AWS IoT vs Flex83: Feature-by-Feature Comparison

AWS IoT Analytics vs Flex83

AWS IoT Analytics Equivalent in Flex83
Time-series data ingestion Flex83 Connector and Ingestion Service – receives streaming data from external sources and ingests it
Data store and transformation pipelines Transformation Service on top of Apache Spark – supports Low Code, No Code, and Custom code
SQL-like querying Flex83 SQLPrime – SQL-like querying with polyglot retrieval
Data visualization dashboards Create custom development with Flex83 Dashboard Service
Managed pipelines Managed low-code ETLs and transformation life-cycle management with Ingestion Service and Transformation Manager

AWS IoT Events vs Flex83

AWS IoT Events Equivalent in Flex83
Event detection (rules, thresholds) Rule Service and ASN (Asset State Notifier) – supports rule configuration, trigger actions, and alert generation
Alarm models and state machines Notification Service – integrates with third-party platforms (email, SMS, messaging services)
Action execution on event triggers Rule Service, Triggers, and ASN work together to perform actions based on event detection
Integration with AWS Lambda FaaS (Function as a Service) – allows execution of custom functions in response to events
Alarm history and event logs ASN – stores alarm history, provides analytics via APIs, and supports configuration of health checks

Security & Infra Comparison

AWS Capability Equivalent in Flex83
IAM roles and policies IAM Service on top of open-source IDP – supports Okta and is flexible to integrate with other IDPs
Single Sign-On (SSO) Supported
Region-specific compliance (e.g., GDPR) Flexible to integrate consent management features

Infrastructure and Deployment

AWS Capability Equivalent in Flex83
AWS Lambda / ECS Kubernetes-managed microservice architecture – Run your code as FaaS Functions
AWS S3 / DynamoDB Native support for MongoDB and Elasticsearch – Flexible to integrate with any cloud-hosted or managed databases
AWS IoT Core Supports integration with Azure ADU and DPS – Custom support for OTA updates and device remote controls

Cost and Migration Advantages

Flex83 gives you more control at lower operational cost:

  • 90% lower cloud operation cost per connected device
  • No need to abandon AWS Core or S3
  • Modular plug-in to existing architectures

Migration Plan: From AWS to Flex83

Step 1: Architecture Mapping — Identify which AWS tools are affected

Step 2: Replace IoT Analytics with Flex83 Insight Studio

Step 3: Rebuild Rules and Workflows with Rule Engine and Function Services

Step 4: Sync dashboards, alarms, and state triggers
